A Shadow of a Skull TBC

A Shadow of a Skull is about thinking about death and gender - more specifically women artists. "A Shadow of a Skull" is about thinking about one's own death, since a mind is inside of a skull. The show reimagines Italian Renaissance humanism including the elevation of the nude male figure and the elevation of the role of the artist. Since women artists were banned from painting live models due to the deeply entrenched patriarchal views at the time, they were also excluded from the genius narrative assigned to other artists of the period. A Shadow of a Skull is about thinking and is built upon a foundation of memento mori and anatomy, some of the building blocks of painting.
